One Body

“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the

same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the

others” Romans 12:4-5

When I joined Marion Medical Mission in 2006, I was surprised to see so many Azungu (white people). My question was, “Why all these Azungu? Do the employees have no expertise here?” Later, I realized that MMM works like a human body, “Just as each of us has one body with many parts, and these parts do not all have the same function.

MMM is an ecumenical, Christian, hands-on, volunteer, nonprofit organization with many people affiliated with it. However, each part cannot exist on its own. Each part enables the various parts to operate within their function. We all work together to

make the organization capable of amazing things. If there is a problem in any of these parts, then, it affects the entire system and as a result the whole organization suffers.

Likewise, in Christ Jesus we were set apart to belong to God. No longer a part of this world we have been made sons and daughters through Christ and called into a royal priesthood. We belong to the body of Christ which is the church. Although the sum total makes up many members we are joined together to make one body. We belong to

each other in unity and service to bring the operation of God’s kingdom in this world.

Each one of us has been given a special gift and called to a specific purpose. But on our own we will not accomplish much. Joining together with other believers and utilizing their gifting is what brings meaning and fullness to the body of Christ.

At the moment the world is struggling with the COVID 19 pandemic; we are no longer a global village and we cannot interact freely as we used to be in fear of contracting the virus. However, God has been faithful and will even bless us more to have a successful program and continue exceeding our goals each year.

Application Question: Take a moment today and think of what gift God has given you and how the gift has been useful for the benefit of others.

Prayer: Dear God, may you help me to understand how you have blessed MMM by

calling me and setting me apart for a specific use in this program. Assist me to continue

operate in that calling. Amen!
